Great Eco-Friendly and Money Saving Home Improvement Projects

In the event you have yet to notice, being green and saving money are definitely the in thing when looking at the latest home improvement projects.  A couple of projects get overlooked because they are typically considered behind the scenes improvements…the installation of a tankless water heater and radiant roof sheathing.

Admittedly, neither project is as beautiful as a new bamboo floor for example, but I have installed a number of both products throughout East Hamptons Homes, and from my experience, the money these technologies will save you, will easily be enough to buy a beautiful new bamboo floor.  Here are a couple things to keep in mind when looking to install these products.

How Can Tankless Water Heaters Save You Money?

This is definitely a more expensive home improvement investment from the onset, but there are so many savings to be realized from having a tankless water heater installed in your home.  It will save you money, time and energy.

Although this technology has been around for a while, it hasn’t been until the last decade that they have really started to catch on in the United States.  These tankless water heaters are just what they are advertised: tankless.  Because of this, there is not the need to spend energy keeping a huge bin of water heated throughout the day.  This is energy you are saving on a daily basis.  By investing in a well-built, tankless water heater, you could easily cut your energy costs to power your water heater in half.

Another great feature that is often overlooked with these appliances is the fact that you will have hot water on demand all day long.  Because the water is only heated as it passes through the tankless water heater, anytime you need hot water, it is right at your fingertips.  This is great for large households where multiple loads of laundry or multiple showers are required daily.

There are also less components making up a tankless water heater.  Because of this, there are far less issues that could go wrong such as a leaky tank.  This means your tankless water heater will require less maintenance, which equates to additional savings for you and your family as well.  As you can see, the savings you will realize will more than pay for the installation of a tankless water heater in no time at all.

How Can Radiant Roof Sheathing Save You Money?

Another area where you can go green and save some cash is with the installation of radiant roof sheathing.  When the harshness of winter or the dry heat of summer set down, having a barrier to protect the internal climate of your home will prove to be a very wise investment when it comes to home improvement projects.  Having radiant roof sheathing installed will keep out the extreme temperatures winter and summer can throw at your home, saving you a ton of money in the process.

Because this radiant sheathing is made of aluminum, it serves to reflect the heat in the summertime outside of the house, and maintain the heat inside the house during the wintertime.  This also means that you won’t have to run your furnace or air conditioner nearly as often which will greatly reduce the amount of money you will be spending on your energy bills throughout the year.

Similar to the tankless water heater, because your furnace and air conditioner will not be running as often, they will not require service as often and will inevitably last longer because of it.  Given replacing a furnace or air conditioner is not cheap either, making home improvements that will extend their lifespan is always a solid investment.  Lastly, because your furnace and air conditioner are not running as often, you are putting less carbon emissions into the environment and reducing your carbon footprint.

The installation of either of these two products is a solid investment for going green and saving money.  Most local home contractors can provide a free estimate in helping you determine the cost of installation for either radiant roof sheathing or a tankless water heater.  It’s important to remember that although they may cost more upfront, the savings you will see over time is well worth the investment.
