If you consider yourself to be fairly handy and would like to be prepared to tackle any small electrical issues that should arise around your home, a basic electrical toolkit is a good thing to have. We asked our on-staff Electrician what he would recommend having on hand should the need arise. He suggested keeping wire strippers, a wire tester, different sizes of wire nuts or scotch locks, screwdrivers, side cut pliers, and electrical tape in an electrical toolkit in your home. He also recommended that you keep the name and number of your local licensed Electrician on hand should you find yourself with a project that’s out of your knowledge. Additionally, he recommended knowing (and recognizing) your limitations. You may know how to mount a large wrought iron chandelier, but if you don’t know how to re-run the wiring—don’t try it. Electrical injuries can be severe. It’s best to leave the jobs you are unsure about to someone that is trained to do it.
