Solar powered lighting has truly come a long way. We asked our General Contractor his opinion on this question and here’s what he said. He mentioned that if you are using these lights for security reasons, the solar powered light is not the best route to go. Generally, they don’t last all night and are definitely not as bright as regular electrical powered lights. If you are looking to solar power your backyard for cookouts or other non security related events though, he said they work well. Since their popularity has grown, they can be found rather inexpensively and are easy to install. Additionally, most manufacturers offer an aftermarket battery that extends the life of the light. On top of that, the cost and installation is much less for solar than running underground electric to a specific location. However, if you are looking for a wall sconce light that is lit all night long—you might be best to go the electrical route.
