Absolutely not! The wires on any thermostat are color coded and correspond to a letter on the back of the thermostat panel. (B=Blue, R=Red, etc.) You’ll want to make sure you shut off power to the furnace (which shuts off power to the thermostat as well) as thermostat wires are generally very fine wires that can short out easily. So, turning off the power may save you a little bit of hassle. Remove the old thermostat panel and connect the old wires to the new panel as the color coding recommends. Turn the power back on and follow the instructions to program your new piece!
