NO! We may think ourselves handy and that electrical tape can work miracles—but it won’t. To splice two pieces of wire up to electrical code, you must use a junction box and actual wire connectors, which you can find at any local hardware store. The code also states that this junction box needs to be accessible somewhere inside your home. You can put it on a wall with a blank cover or hide it in the back of a cabinet. We hid ours behind drapery hanging from our wrought iron curtain rods. It just needs to be somewhere that should the connection come loose; you can repair it without cutting into the wall. Loose connections can be the cause of electrical fires! So take the extra steps and splice your wires correctly! You could be saving your house!
