For today’s post, we asked for the opinion of Jamie Janson, an Interior Designer in Florida on what a few of her “bathroom favorites” were currently. Not only did she send over some great information, but great images to go with them as well! Check out her opinions below and her website and facebook page at the bottom of the post!
There are a few design details that I think are awesome and should be included in every bathroom design. Here is my rundown:
Style
1.) Large tile. Large tile sizes are taking over bathrooms. Instead of the smaller 4” x 4” or 12” x 12” tiles used in the past, many designers are choosing 10” x 20” and 24” x 24’”. The most common tile design on the bathtub or shower area was a simple 3” listello deco tile that was installed at eye level and simply broke up the wall a little. But that has been overdone and looks so basic. Eliminating that listello all together is now the trend. Or, if you really want to add an accent tile, then running it vertical has also been very popular. I have even designed the vertical listello to continue on the main floor of the bathroom to really make a statement. The price really depends on the tile store you buy from.
2.) Brass. Brass is back and I love it!!! Brass hardware compliments any design. It looks good with chrome, brushed nickel and even oil rubbed bronze fixtures. Brass looks beautiful against a white painted door that has a glaze on it. Brass handles look great against a dark blue door and most paint colors. I think a mix of textures is what makes a design look “designed”. If as designers we all used matched sets, then why would anyone hire us? It’s our job to mix it up and create a wow factor. Brass mixes it up.
Function
3.) Styling station. Women always struggle with how to organize their blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons ect. Throwing them into a pile in the sink base just isn’t cutting it. The pile creates a tangling of the cords and just a huge pain to dig through the sink base to reach your hairdryer. So, I include a styling station that come in 2 forms. The first one being a drawer that has an insert with holes for easy storage. The second utilizes the dummy drawer front in the sink base. I include drop down hinges and a panel with holes to utilize this dead space. It’s simple and necessary for bathroom storage.
4.) Bass Egg. Yep, I’m obsessed with this little nugget of music. I enjoy music in the morning while I am getting ready. The bass Egg is a speaker thingy that works with Bluetooth through your phone or computer. It allows you to have a wireless speaker anywhere you want! Bass Egg basically turns whatever counter you sit it on, into a speaker. So, it sounds different on different surfaces. Like on wood or granite and even glass…they all give you a different sound. It’s perfect for your morning routine to add a little kick in your step! The best part is the cost..only $99!
