While we’re sure we could come up with a spring cleaning guide for nearly all the rooms in your home, since we are bathroom experts, we figured we’d share this one. The bathroom is one of the most often used and one of the “germ-iest” places in your home. So it’s a good idea, if nothing else, to give this room a good spring cleaning scrub down. Here are a few things that are often forgotten and very important!
□ Remove the cover from your bathroom ventilation fan and wash with warm soapy water. Additionally, use a vacuum attachment to remove any dust in the housing unit and wipe down the blades before replacing the cover.
□ Remove any flush mount light fixture and wash with warm soapy water. Additionally, use a warm washcloth to wipe down any other lighting in the bathroom (sconce, track, etc.)
□ It may sound crazy, but we wipe down the walls too! The winter months may have seen toothpaste flicks, or water splashes on the walls surrounding your bathroom fixtures. Use a washcloth dipped (and wrung out) in warm, soapy water and give the walls and baseboards a good scrub down.
□ De-calcify your showerhead. (Or any other mineral deposit for that matter!) The internet has been a-buzz with people typing bags of vinegar around their showerhead overnight and removing them with no cleaning involved. While we haven’t ourselves tried this, we do know that vinegar is a great cleaning solution. We’ve removed our showerhead, allowed it to soak overnight, then scrubbed with a toothbrush. Additionally, a safety pin helps to scrap stubborn build up spots clean.
□ Clean out your medicine cabinet! Remove any old and expired meds. You may be surprised to find how many you have in there!
□ Wash your shower liner (we recommend good ol’ bleach) and your washing machine. For decorative cloth lines, wash the same way you would your regular laundry. Hand both to dry.
□ Machine wash any rugs or floor coverings in your bathroom. (I myself have been guilty of just shaking them out each week!)
□ Wipe down the sides of your bathroom vanity. Most people stay on task when it comes to wiping down the sink and countertop, but forget to wipe the sides. Use a warm, soft washcloth to wipe down the sides of your vanity cabinet.
□ Seal a natural stone countertop (Stay tuned for instructions on how to do this in our next post!)
□ Clean shower, toilet, sink, and floor per usual.
