It’s gross; but it happens. And what do you do when it does? A friend suggested putting your hand in the toilet, but we think we’ll pass on that idea. Instead we got some helpful words of wisdom from our general contractor. He suggests getting a toilet drain snake from a local home improvement store. With these you push a long, flexible metal piece into the toilet, leaving a crank for you to handle up top. These extend about 4 or 5 feet and generally, once you start cranking, your clog will be repaired. If it still isn’t fixed, you do have the option to get a longer drain snake, which can extend up to 25 feet. If neither of these solutions work? Unfortunately, then it’s time to call the plumber.
