Many basements found in older homes have made use of concrete walls by simply painting them. Over time, the paint can chip, or our décor styles can change and we are ready either to strip it and leave it blank, or paint it with a new color. If you are only working with a small wall, or a tiny area that has been painted—like a wall next to a basement small bath vanity— paint thinner and a scraper will do the trick. If it is a larger surface, you may want to consider using a spray on paint thinner and a power washer. This mess this job leaves is big, there’s no denying that. However, the effort you’ll have to put forth to complete it is far less. Additionally, if you find the paint is really stuck on there, you may even consider priming and painting right over top of it. Granted, this solution may not be the best for the long term, but it’s the simplest to complete.
