Since our focus for January has been on everything surrounding bathroom remodels, we thought we’d ask our on staff Contractor to share with us some of his personal “life-saving” favorites when it comes to bathroom plumbing. He’s tried, tested and proven these products to be true–so we hope that they can be of some value to you!
- Shark Bite Fittings–Great for use if you’ve got a stop cock that is bad or a water main valve that won’t turn all the way off and it seems impossible to sweat a new copper fitting on. Shark Bite fittings come in all sizes and… wait for it….. SIMPLY PUSH ON! No need for PEX crimping tools or sweating of copper!
- No Hub Coupling–Most commonly used to connect the waist arm of the p-trap assembly to the drain pipe coming out of the wall, regardless if it is copper, lead, or PVC. Comes in a multitude of sizes with rubber coupling and 2 hose clamps that ensure a sealed fit.
- Plastic/Composite Shims–Great for leveling a wobbly toilet during installation. Sometimes, due to uneven floor levels, your toilet will rock on the closet flange. Plastic or composite shims will stop this rotting action with no worry of rotting away.
- DAP Caulk–Brilliant for use around the toilet at the floor. (Remember though, to leave an area at the back of the toilet uncaulked, so if there is a bad seal or leak at the wax ring, the water has somewhere to show itself!)
- Zip It Anchors–Great for hanging bathroom accessories such as toilet paper holders, towel bars, even heavier vanity mirrors! Most are rated for at least 45lbs, so there’s no need to look for studs in the wall. (Note, on mirrors, you would want to use more than one to ensure a safe and stable mount.)
