Are you finding that one of your two sockets on an outlet in your home is not working anymore? Perhaps the one you use frequently next to your bathroom vanity? Not to worry, the solution is easy and cheap! You’ll need to purchase a residential outlet from your local hardware store. These usually cost under $1. Ensure the power is turned off, and unscrew your cover plate and the outlet. Oftentimes, the tabs on the side of the outlet have broken or the wires have somehow separated. Either way, remove the wires from the old outlet and replace them in the same location on the new outlet. Make sure you cut the ends off the wire and re-strip them. After a wire has been stripped and bent to go around a device screw or stabbed into the back, it becomes weak and may break easily. Reinstall your outlet back into the box and replace the cover panel, and you’re done!
