Standard Bathroom Vanity Sizes

Bathroom vanities come in all sizes, but some are considered standard for the industry. Knowing what those are can help you better plan your bathroom remodel. Choosing the right size vanity will depend on several factors, including the space you have to work with, what type of vanity you want, how many sinks you need, and so forth.

Before you can get to all that, it helps to learn more about standard bathroom vanity sizes. In this guide, we’ll go over all the standard bathroom vanity size options and the other sizing considerations you need to know. For those with limited space, don’t worry about having to compromise:

  • Small bathroom vanities are available in single and double designs, depending on your available space.
  • Narrow-depth bathroom vanities are great for spaces where you may only have a little room for a vanity but still need more than a sink. This is also where floating vanities can be useful—more on those later.

Now, let’s take a closer look at standard sizes for single, double, and other bathroom vanity types.

What are Standard Single Sink Vanity Sizes?

The single vanity is most commonly found in smaller bathrooms, half baths, and main baths of the home. These vanities come in all styles and designs and a range of sizes. Typically, you will find single vanities in sizes like:

  • 24 inches
  • 30 inches
  • 36 inches
  • 48 inches
  • 60 inches
  • 72 inches

These all refer to the width of the vanity, of course. The standard vanity depth ranges from 20 to 23 inches, although narrow depth vanities come in as shallow as 16 or 18 inches, making even more room in small spaces.

There aren’t standard heights in vanity selection, but most will range between 32 and 36 inches. Those with children or who are shorter may want a shorter counter to make using the bathroom easy.

What are Standard Double Sink Vanity Sizes?

Double vanities also come in the same heights and depths as single vanities:

  • Height ranging from 32-36 inches
  • Depth from 20-23 inches
  • Narrow depths from 16-18 inches

The width is where double vanities have a difference. They’re typically larger and can’t really be accommodated under 48 inches in width. Most double-sink vanities will be found in widths of:

  • 60 inches
  • 72 inches
  • 80 inches
  • 84 inches

Double vanities are typically designed to have more counter space and room for that second sink. Depending on the size you choose, you will have more or less extra counter space to use. And like single vanities, you can also have custom sizes designed if necessary.

What are Comfort Vanities?

Comfort vanities are designed for taller people. They typically come in around 36 inches high, which is at the high end of the range. This offers a few extra inches for adults in your home when kids aren’t a consideration or when everyone is taller and doesn’t want to be bending all the time.

Comfort vanities can also be ideal for accessibility and use by older adults. They are the same height as kitchen counters, making them the ideal height for ergonomic, comfortable use. You can find these vanities in every style and design you can imagine, so don’t worry that you’ll be limited if you decide you want a taller vanity.

On the other side of this, there are also shorter vanities for people who aren’t as tall or for bathrooms that will be used by children primarily. These can be found in heights ranging from 30 to 32 inches, but custom vanities can also be made in just about any size that you require. Consider who will use the bathroom space to help you determine the right height.

What are Floating Vanities?

Floating or wall mounted vanities are a great choice for those who want something that offers space without taking up a lot of it. These vanities are raised off the floor, which frees up the floor space and makes the room look bigger. Floating vanities are also great for modern and contemporary designs and spa-inspired spaces where you want to make a unique statement.

Floating vanities are available in all the same widths as standard vanities. The height is where you will find the difference. A floating vanity might only be 12 or 14 inches high, but it will be installed off the floor, so you’ll calculate that to determine the total height.

For example, if you have a 14 inch floating vanity installed 18 inches off the floor, you’ll have a 32 inch counter height. With a 20 inch high floating vanity that’s installed 14 inches off the floor, you’d have a 34 inch counter height, which is average.

Factor this into your design choices to get the perfect counter height.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Bathroom Vanity Size

As mentioned, the users of the bathroom vanity are the most important consideration. Once you’ve covered that, then you’ll need to think about the following:

  • The size of the space you’re working with
  • Whether you need one or two sinks
  • How much of a focal point do you want the vanity to be
  • Whether you’re installing a vessel sink (a lower counter may be required to accommodate the height difference)

Ultimately, your decision will be a matter of preference based on the design and use of your new bathroom space. Fortunately, there are vanities available for just about every need, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding the perfect fit.
